The Matanzas Museum is a product of The Core III Design Studio at The University of South Florida School of Architecture + Community Design. Fort Matanzas, is fifteen miles North of Saint Augustine, Florida. The structure is a historical remembrance of Florida’s history of European conflicts for the land and Spanish empire. The fort has been standing since 1740 and its landscape provides a home to hundreds of wild life. Through studying the landscape surrounding Fort Matanzas, the strong connection between bodies of water became prominent. The Fort protects over 300 acres of Florida dunes, marsh, and environmental elements.
