The Austin Greenbelt Observatory is a product of The Austin AIA fundraising event called 3x5x7. "The event series explored and celebrated the architectural model and the craft of model making, and featured a collection of models crafted by Austin’s architecture and design community. 3x5x7 models were available through silent auction, with proceeds benefiting the grants and programs of the Austin Foundation for Architecture.* These works were displayed alongside a selection of models created by local architects and architecture firms for a range of projects—from art installations and research to urban planning—revealing the vast range of their makers’ business, research, and creative practices."
The Austin Greenbelt Observatory is an ode to The Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, California. The AGO creates an icon for the Austin city skyline and showcases the beautiful atmosphere of the Austin Greenbelt.
